Bank of America Down? Online Banking Issues Reported
FOCUS-GLOBAL.CO.CC-Bank of America said a “very small population” of its banking customers are experiencing slow service on its online banking website, or were unable to access the site, Deal Journal colleague David Benoit is reporting. There has been speculation about a possible pending dump of internal BofA documents from anti-secrecy organization Wikileaks, but the bank says the online problems are not security-related.
A Bank of America spokeswoman said the slowdown started early today and resulted from a routine systems change. The spokeswoman didn’t comment on what the change was, and said the bank hopes it would be back to normal soon.
The online account problems have sparked of flood of interest — where else? — online. Five of the top 20 hottest searches on Google are related to Bank of America. And BofA’s help account on Twitter account is doing a brisk business in queries this afternoon.
Hopefully, BofA’s outage won’t be as lasting as one J.P. Morgan Chase experienced in September, when access to its online banking service was interrupted for three days. J.P. Morgan pledged to refund fees from any missed payments resulting from the outage.
